The moxie of studying more of why some people are bound to feel inferior whereas some people can easily carry themselves led me to curate this article of study.

Understanding the not-so-easy concept of Inferiority

The fact that being human does come with the natural occurrence of inferiority complex. We see someone possessing better stuff, we immediately start sulking.

In definition:

The basic concept underlying the theory of “Individual psychology” is that of the teleological unity of the personality. In other words, a person can predict the type of response which an individual will make to a given stimulus.

Also, to interpret rightly the individual’s attitude towards a particular problem only if he knows in advance the goals toward which the individual under observation is striving.

Each additional assertion, the observer wishes to integrate into a meaningful relationship with the observed.

Inferiority complex rise from:

-The world contributing towards making us feel undervalued is the biggest reason that a person tends to feel Inferior to anyone

-Family and societal pressures and comments play a huge role, too

-Not knowing how to deal with memories that can emotionally drag you towards the inferior side

-Not addressing any shortcomings

-Not seeking professional help

-Talking to someone who would rather tell you to succumb your feelings than to be of help

-It could be our genes that are deciding our part in being pessimistic and sulking

Story of my life

I remember an eye-opening incident from the previous year. I was working in an institute as a research writer. This was my new job, we had been invited to participate in a contest followed by some recreational activities (HR insisted everyone attend, no matter what!!). I would never dare to sign up, yeah, you got that one right!!

— — ->

I was very shy and would not ever perform for a crowd.

I was asked to come up on the dias just because everyone else did. It went well beyond my expectations, I felt somehow good after my dance.

A Couple of days later, I see a heartbreaking thing.

So, they had posted the performance video on a social site, I was nowhere to be seen. I curled up to a ball of sadness and did a lot of thinking.

Upon a lot of condoning, I did realize that it might have been obvious that I was insecure about the performance, myself that they had to edit the bit.

What did I learn after the incident?

Nothing much but the value of self-confidence, it makes or breaks the deal.

Are inferior people unfit for society?

No, they are not. No one is unfit to live on the earth. They just have an inability to process the bombardment of energy around them. Simply because they do not know that one shortcoming of them won’t change the tons of other good qualities they possess.

It so often happens in a new setting or new environment or around strangers. It happens to the best of us that we tend to forget to respond naturally when we make a new acquaintance. Due to this oblivescence, we come off as extremely introverted or insecure personalities.

Sometimes it happens simply because we are unfamiliar with the setting and the kind of crowd around us.

Conclusion: Hacks to avoid feeling insecure and unfit

So, for overcoming feeling drained during such social interactions you don’t require aberrant efforts. Tried and tested methods to use at any event or any unfamiliar environment:

  • Try memorising a few questions beforehand
  • Greet everyone
  • Make eye contact
  • Remember, some people are as insecure & anxious you are
  • It is okay to avoid some topics if you are not comfortable
  • Say hello to ease the awkwardness
  • Do not think of any person as a person superior to you
  • Enjoy your own company if all else fails
  • Inferiority comes from social labels, you are better than that
  • Do not confine yourself to one category
  • Most importantly, enjoy being ‘YOU’ despite your flaws

Thanks for reading.

Stay safe 😅💫💫
